Christmas Markets 2018: the most voted on European Best Destinations

European Best Destinations is an organization located in Bruxelles, Belgium, active since 2009 in promoting culture and tourism in Europe. Every year, EBD encourage the travelers from all over the world to vote, in order to express their preferences on the European destinations and on themes such as seaside, mountain, nature, wine tourism, national parks, luxury and wellness, just to say some of them on which we talked about on these focuses.

The daily focus is based on Christmas Markets 2018 in Europe and on their related most voted destinations from more than 200.000 travelers from 131 Countries who participated to the dedicated contest. The 72% of travelers came from the Old Continent, the 28% from the rest of the world. EDB highlights that the data came from everywhere, even from Kenya, Panama, Samoa and Saint Kitts and Nevis.


Each traveler could vote only three European destinations for Christmas markets 2018. The following 24 destinations selected by the organisers, among more than 75 Christmas markets promoted by EDB, were the ones that challenged for the favorites:

  • Bruxelles (Belgium)

  • Helsinki (Finland)
  • Leipzig (Germany)
  • Madeira (Portugal)
  • Manchester (United Kingdom)
  • Metz (France)
  • Montbéliard (France)
  • Nuremberg (Germany)
  • Prague (Czech Republic)
  • Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Germany)
  • Strasbourg (France)
  • Tallinn (Estonia)
  • Trier (Germany)
  • Wien (Austria)
  • Zagreb (Croatia)

Among these 24 destinations, four of them got out of the Top 20. They are Brno, Helsinki, Madeira and Treviri. Here is the rank of the Christmas markets 2018 developed by EDB:

Other information provided by EBD are about the preferences expressed in some European Countries for the top destinations in other European Countries. We can find out, for example, that after Colmar, the other destination voted in France were Bruxelles, Wien and Budapest while in Switzerland, after the local destinations, the votes went to Zagreb, Colmar and Strasbourg.

In conclusion: in Croatia, after Zagreb, the votes went to Wien, Budapest and Prague; in Belgium, after Bruxelles, the votes went to Colmar, Strasbourg and Metz; in Germany, after Aachen, the travelers voted for Zagreb and Wien.
